چکیده
A polypeptide has been isolated from bovine adenohypopbysis which antagonizes the hypoglycemic effect of exogenous insulin and which, per se, induces loss of carbohydrate tolerance in men and dogs. Mild acid hydrolysis of the active polypeptide yields a compound which retains the same biological properties. Characteristics of the active principle and its hydrolytic product is the long duration of their activities, the greatest intensity of the effects

A diabetogenic polypeptide from hog and sheep adenohypophysis similar to that found in lipoatrophic diabetes.
A polypeptide possessing physical and biological properties similar to that excreted in the urine by patients with lipoatrophic diabetes was previously isolated from bovine adenohypophysis. A similar principle has now been obtained from the anterior lobes of hog and sheep pituitaries by the same procedures of isolation. The material from these animals also induces hyperglycemia and insulin resi...

A polypeptide exhibiting diabetogenic body weight to dogs resulted in significant and antiinsulin properties has been isointolerance to glucose and resistance to lated from human pituitary glands by exogenous insulin 10 and 34 hours a procedure slightly modified from that after injection. Comparison of glucose with which a similar polypeptide was tolerance tests in the same animals dispreviousl...
متن کاملINFLUENCE OF BOVINE DIABETOGENIC PEPTIDE, GROWTH HORMONE, AND PROLACTIN ON TISkJE GLYCOGEN, LIVER FAT, AND LIVER WATER OF FASTING RATS
I. Bovine diabetogenic peptide, growth hormone, and prolactin were compared with respect to their effects on tissue glycogen, liver fat, and liver water in fasting rats. 2. Bovine diabetogenic peptide increases liver size, liver glycogen, liver water, and total liver lipids. 3. Bovine diabetogenic peptide, in contrast to growth hormone and prolactin, does not increase muscle glycogen levels. IN...
متن کاملLipoatrophic diabetes: an improved procedure for the isolation and purification of a diabetogenic polypeptide from urine.
An improved procedure is outlined for the isolation of a diahetogenic polypeptide from urine of patients with lipoatrophic diabetes. The compound provokes insulin resistance and temporary loss of glucose tolerance when administered to dogs and humans. It is now free of a toxic contaminant which, by the previous method, had to he removed by more drastic treatment of the compound than was deemed ...
متن کاملEffect of a Diabetogenic Factor from Bovine ~4de~~hypop~y~~~ on Dog Serw-m Nefa Levels
I. Fasted dog serum non-ester&d fatty acid (NEFA) levels were elevated to and 34 hours after administration of a diabetogenic protein (BDF) isolated from bovine adenohypoph+L 2. The fasting serum NEFA were elevated in spite of the presence of normal or high glucose and insulin Icvels. 3. After oral glucase administration to BDF-treated animals, a fall of serum NEFA paralleled inversely the incr...
